PAST EVENTS
4H FAIR AND TASTE OF MARSHALL COUNTY
The Marshall
County Soil and Water Conservation District had their usual space at the 4H
fair, but in addition they helped co-host the Environmental Game at the Solid
Waste Management booth. Visitors to the booth
would spin the wheel, answer a question regarding water or the environment, and
win a prize!!!
The District also had a booth at the first ever highly successful Taste
of Marshall County at the fair grounds, July 20th.

FISH SALE
The Marshall County Soil and Water Conservation
District co-sponsored a Spring Fish sale with the Kosciusko
County Soil and Water Conservation
District May 8th. The fish
sold were from Clear Creek Fisheries, Martinsville,
IN.
ECO EXPO
The Eco Expo was held again this year
on May 6th. In the morning
students from LaVille and Culver attended the Billy B. performance in the
amphitheater at the park. In the
afternoon Billy B. preformed for the Plymouth
students at Menominee
Middle School. This event was co-sponsored by Marshall
County Solid Waste Management District (SWMD), Plymouth
Parks, and the Marshall County Soil and Water Conservation
District (SWCD).
AG DAY
Ag Day was held in Centennial Park
on April 3rd. The District presented
the Natural Resources part of the program.
SPRING NEWSLETTER –

TREE PICK UP
The District picked up trees Marshall County residents ordered from the Jasper
Pulaski State Nursery for a small fee.
Two thousand seven hundred (2,700) trees were picked up on March 26th.
STRAWBLOWER SOLD
The District sold their Pro Chopper
and trailer March 15th at the Marshall County FFA Auction.
NORTH CENTRAL REGIONAL
ENVIROTHON CONTEST HELD
The Arrow Head Country RC&D
Educational Committee hosted the North Central Regional Envirothon March 12th
at Camp Buffalo
in White County.
Twenty seven high school teams competed for the right to compete in the
State Envirothon to be held April 29th in Muncie.
Marshall County Schools participating in this Regional Envirothon
included LaVille High School. 1st
Place went to Western Boone, 2nd Place
went to Rossville FFA #1 and 3rd
Place went to Clinton County
4H.

The District traded in their old RTS

MINUTES OF THE 52nd ANNUAL
MEETING
The 52nd
Annual Meeting of the Marshall County Soil and
Water Conservation District was held Tuesday, January 29, 2008 at Pretty Lake Trinity United
Methodist Church
in Plymouth.
Chairman
Randy Glingle welcomed everyone to the 52nd Annual Meeting. Ralph Booker then offered the
invocation. Following the buffet,
Chairman Randy Glingle called the meeting to order. The following introductions were made:
MARSHALL COUNTY SWCD – Chairman Randy Glingle and his wife Bobbi,
Vice-chairman Jon Langfeldt and his wife Laura, Wayne Houin, and his wife Mary
Kay, Steve Martin, and his wife Muriel, Marc Eads, Assistant Administrator
Wanda Norris, Water Quality Technician Upper Tippecanoe Watershed Brian Pyle; INDIANA DEPARTMENT OF AGRICULTURE (ISDA), Director Andy Miller; ISDA, DIVISION
OF SOIL CONSERVATION – District Support Specialist Jim Lake; NATURAL

Wayne Houin
conducted the supervisor election. Jon
Lanfeldt’s term expired with this election. Jon decided against running again. After Wayne
explained the election procedure, the election committee nominated Joel Fisher
for the elected supervisor position. There
were no nominations from the floor. A
motion was made to close the nominations, it was seconded and carried. Joel was elected as supervisor. The election committee consisted of Wayne
Houin, Jon Langfeldt, and Bob Yoder.
A power point
presentation entitled “Marshall County SWCD 2007” was shown to the
group by Wanda Norris and Brian D. Pyle.
Indiana
State Department of Agriculture Director Andy Miller spoke to the group on Indiana’s progress
in becoming a leader in bio-fuels and agriculture. He discussed Indiana’s conservation programs
including CREP. Andy also answered
questions from the group.
Steve
Martin recognized the top three teams in the County 4H/FFA Soil Judging
Contest. Placing first in the contest
was a FFA team from Argos. Team members were James Rensberger, Patrick
Chaney, Kelsy Strahla and Dustin Elliot.
They were coach by Mike Jones;
Second place went to a Plymouth FFA team. Members were Troy Spencer, Stephanie Nifong,
Bill Hendricks and Tyler Vermillion. They
were coached by Larry McCollough; Third
place went to a Bremen FFA team. Team
member were Cody Myer, Brandon Hershberger, Stacy Unsicker and Shannon Welborn. They were coached by Chad Berger.
Plaques
were awarded to all three schools and first, second or third place medallions
were presented to all the team members.
Steve also
recognized Tom Watkins and presented him with a yard sign acknowledging him as
an Indiana River Friendly Farmer.
Jim Lake presented certificates to Wayne
Houin and Wanda Norris for their participation in Cornerstone: Board
Development and Leadership in Change trainings.
Jim also
conducted a swearing-in ceremony for newly elected supervisor Joel Fisher,
newly appointed supervisors Donald Schultz (replacing Wayne Houin) and Benjamin
Schaller (replacing Marc Eads).
Following
the door prize drawing conducted by Steve, Jon and Wayne, Randy thanked
everyone for coming.
The
Meeting was then adjourned.

IASWCD ANNUAL CONFERENCE
The
Annual Conference of the Indiana Association of Soil and Water Conservation
Districts was held at the Marriott in downtown Indianapolis January 14 -16, 2008. Marshall County SWCD Chairman Randy Glingle
was the District’s delegate to the conference. He visited with Marshall County
Representatives at the Legislative Breakfast held early Wednesday morning. Later he voted on new resolutions at the
IASWCD Business Meeting.
Dan Rosswurm, Acting District Conservationist attended various sessions
during the 3-day conference.
